ADOPTION INFORMATION
Thank you for your interest in adopting a cat from Queen City Cats! We are grateful for your help in saving precious lives of cats and kittens in our community. Please read all info below carefully!
Each adoption includes a cat who has been:
⦁ vet checked
⦁ spayed or neutered
⦁ vaccinated with age-appropriate vaccines
⦁ de-wormed
⦁ microchipped
⦁ FIV/FeLV tested
⦁ treated for fleas and ticks (if necessary)
You will also receive:
⦁ a complimentary wellness exam by participating VT veterinarian of your choice
All of our cats will have spent time in foster care before transitioning to their forever homes. We provide a loving environment and all necessary vet care, but we also assess their demeanor and get to know their unique personalities so we can make the best possible match for them and for you, our adopters.
Based on our observations, their age and their history, some cats will require a home with another cat companion for their mental well-being. Cats are Social! Read more about that here: Adoption Considerations.
Kittens 6 months and under will be adopted out in pairs and bonded pairs (no matter their age) will also stay together. See more info on why here : Two Kittens Are Better Than One
When you adopt from QCC and sign our adoption contract, you agree to:
⦁ provide your cat companion with a safe and healthy indoor environment
⦁ provide a nutritious diet and fresh water daily (catinfo.org)
⦁ never punish or harm your cat in any way
⦁ never declaw your cat (pawproject.org)
⦁ provide vet care at the first sign of illness, injury or disease and to stay up to date on all necessary vaccines
⦁ responsibly care for your cat for the duration of his/her life which can be up to 20+ years
⦁ if the above becomes impossible and you feel relinquishment is the only option, you must make every effort to contact QCC and return the cat to our organization
ADOPTION PROCESS
If you are at least 21 years old and interested in any of our available cats, please fill out our adoption application below. Once we have received your completed form and have checked your references, we will inform you via email whether you are approved or not. After an approval email has been sent to you, we will put your preferred cat's foster parent in touch with you to arrange an in-person visit. If the meeting is successful, we can either schedule the adoption appointment within the following 48 hours or you may be cleared to adopt at the initial visit.
If you are an approved adopter and wish to visit a potential new family member who is currently residing at Queen City Cat Lounge, you are not required to book a full hour (although that is an option); regardless, you must coordinate directly with Queen City Cats to find a suitable time for everyone involved.
Due to the high volume of adoption applications and in fairness, Queen City Cats operates on a first come, first served basis. If there are multiple approved adopters who are interested in the same cat, we do consider the most suitable home for the cat.
Please note: if we feel your preferred cat(s) would not be a good fit for you or your household, we may suggest another cat who would better fit your lifestyle. This is at our discretion. If there are no other available cats of interest, we will hold your application for up to 6 months.
Make sure you are ready to adopt when you schedule a meet and greet. Our foster parents cannot hold cats for you while you travel, “get ready” for your feline companion, etc. Once the decision to adopt has been made, you will have 48 hours to take your new feline family members home. Otherwise, the cat(s) will be allowed to meet the next approved adopter on the list.
You must have your own secure cat carrier(s) when picking up your new companion(s). Otherwise, we will not be able to complete the adoption at that time.
The adoption fee must be paid in full at the time of the adoption meeting. We accept cash, check (with valid ID), Venmo and PayPal. Checks should be made out to Queen City Cats; Venmo is @queencitycatsvt; PayPal is queencitycatsvt@gmail.com. Cash and checks are preferred. A small tip added to Venmo or PayPal payments will help us mitigate the fees they charge QCC and would be much appreciated.
Adoption fees are as follows:
Single kitten (< 1 year old) = $200
Pair of kittens (< 1 year old) = $250
Adult cat (1- 8 years old) = $150
Pair of adults (1- 8 years old) = $200
Senior (8+ years old) = $75
Additional senior = Donation
CAT ADOPTIONS AT QUEEN CITY CAT LOUNGE
All adoptions must be coordinated through us, Queen City Cats. We do not allow same day adoptions and we do not hold cats or kittens for unapproved potential adopters. You must first fill out an online adoption application and be approved before adopting.
Just like we do with our cats in foster care, we operate on a first-come, first-served basis. If you fall in love with a feline during your visit to the Lounge, there's a chance that kitty is spoken for.
Once you are approved, the initial meet and greet has been completed, and you've decided to adopt your new family member, please contact a QCC coordinator directly to schedule an adoption appointment. Same day and weekend adoption appointments are not guaranteed at the Lounge, but we will do our best to accommodate everyone.
READY TO ADOPT?
Please fill out the following questionnaire to the best of your ability, so that we can get to know you, and match you with the most suitable cat for your family.
Queen City Cats will be here to guide you even after you adopt one of our cats. Feel free to contact us with any questions or to give us updates on your new feline companion(s). We are always here for you and the kitties!
